Why Arlington Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Arlington has a population of 280, and its measured growth of 0.40% annually points to steady, incremental demand for home improvement and small-scale construction projects rather than a building boom. That steady pace means homeowners are more likely to take on incremental upgrades—driveway repairs, yard regrading, raised beds, and small additions—creating consistent need for bulk materials over time. With 152 sunny days and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall in a USDA hardiness zone of 8b, local climate drives choices toward materials that manage both moisture and heat: good drainage materials, erosion-control options, topsoil and amendments for planting, and durable base layers for driveways and patios. Local geology and regional sourcing also affect color, texture, and gradation of aggregates, so quality and supplier transparency matter for achieving the desired look and long-term performance.Popular Projects in Arlington This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Arlington Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Arlington.
Delivered price depends on material type, quantity, distance from the supplier, and local availability. Rural locations in West Alabama can have slightly higher delivery or lead-time charges because of trucking distance and access. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing during checkout and requires a 3-ton minimum for most deliveries.
Yes—many local suppliers and contracted haulers in our network deliver to rural addresses in the West Alabama area. Delivery depends on road access, truck turning radius, and site conditions; please add delivery notes (gates, low bridges, blocked driveways) at checkout so haulers can plan. If access is limited, we can suggest alternate drop locations or recommend a smaller delivery truck when available.
Clay soils hold water and can cause poor drainage, rutting, and washout if projects are not prepared properly. Choose materials and installation approaches that promote drainage and stability, such as well-graded aggregates, a compacted base, or geotextile underlayment. Expect seasonal expansion and settling and plan for drainage solutions to keep materials performing well.
Spring and fall generally offer the most consistent weather for yard and driveway work in Arlington, avoiding the heat and frequent summer storms. Summer thunderstorms and saturated soils can delay deliveries and make compaction difficult, so schedule in advance and allow extra time during wetter months. Standard delivery lead time is 2+ business days; next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST.
Use the formula: length x width x depth (in feet) divided by 27 to get cubic yards. As a rule of thumb, a single-car driveway (10 ft x 50 ft) with a 4-inch base and 2-inch surface needs about 9 to 10 cubic yards total; a double-car driveway (20 ft x 50 ft) with the same depths needs about 18 to 20 cubic yards. Material weight varies, but 1 cubic yard often equals about 1.2 to 1.6 tons depending on the material; use our material calculator to get a more precise estimate.
Permit and HOA rules vary by city limits, county, and neighborhood covenants, so check your local city or county building office and your HOA before large deliveries. Common restrictions include blocking public right-of-way, limits on visible stockpiles, runoff controls, and safety requirements. If in doubt, contact our team and we can suggest best practices and documentation to show contractors or officials.
Proper results start with site prep: remove organic topsoil, grade for positive drainage, and install geotextile if soils are soft. Place material in 2- to 4-inch lifts and compact each layer with a plate compactor or roller until firm. Contractors in the area commonly build a compacted base first and then add surface material to the required depth for load and use.
Because West Alabama gets heavy rain events and often has clay subsoils, prioritize materials and designs that move water away from structures—sloped grading, swales, French drains, and permeable surfaces help. Larger, well-graded aggregates are often chosen for steep areas to reduce washout, while finer materials are used in low-traffic yard areas. Consider erosion control measures like edging, vegetation, or permeable fabric where runoff could cause loss of material.
Many suppliers offer delivery-only service through trucking partners, while some local contractors and suppliers also provide spreading, hauling away old material, and full installation for an additional fee. Tailgate spreading by the driver may be possible at their discretion; if you want guaranteed spreading or full installation, request a contractor or installation quote. Hello Gravel can connect you with suppliers and local pros for those additional services.
Smaller, rural markets like those around Arlington may have fewer product choices and slightly longer lead times than larger metro areas, which can affect price and availability. Local sourcing reduces long-distance freight, but specialty or colored blends may be harder to find and could carry a premium. We recommend requesting quotes ahead of time and checking alternative nearby zip codes if you need a specific material quickly.
Dump trucks typically used for delivery require clear access for turning and unloading; note any narrow roads, weight limits, low-hanging lines, or gates in your Order Notes. Minimum orders are usually 3 tons; tell us your preferred drop location and any restrictions so the hauler can plan. If ground conditions are very soft, the driver may decline to dump on unstable ground for safety reasons and suggest an alternate location.
Start by defining the purpose: load-bearing surfaces like driveways need stable, compactable aggregates while garden beds and drainage areas may benefit from more permeable mixes. Consider appearance, budget, and local climate—ask whether you need erosion control, drainage, or a decorative finish. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator and aggregate quiz or contact our sales team for tailored guidance based on your site and project goals.
