Decomposed Granite
Known for its natural look, this compact, durable material drains well and holds up in high-traffic areas. Made from crushed and weathered granite down to a mix of fine gravel and sand—best for patios, paths, driveways, and landscape projects. Can range in color from light brown and tan to reddish and gray, depending on the natural stone color in the region.
Walkway Gravel
A smaller ⅜” crushed stone that is great for paths, patios, and garden walkways. Comfortable under foot thanks to its smaller size, and creates a beautiful garden-like atmosphere.
Road Base
(Class 5 | ABC | Crusher Run) A mixture of crushed limestone or granite, gravel, and sand, ranging from 1 ½” in size down to fines (small particles). Commonly used for constructing roads, driveway bases, parking lots, and other paved and unpaved surfaces. Intended to be compacted, hence the inclusion of fines within the material to provide support and be resistant to erosion and shifting.

Why The Flats Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
The Flats has a city population of 6,000 and sits inside a metro area with a population of 2.3+ million—growth here is steady, with a rate of 2.50% annually. Homebuilding, yard upgrades, and small commercial projects are common as neighborhoods expand, and the local climate plays a big role in material choice: The Flats falls in USDA hardiness zone 8b, averages 228 sunny days per year, and receives about 33.20 inches of rain annually. Those conditions drive demand for durable, well-draining aggregates that resist washout during seasonal storms and withstand prolonged sun exposure. Homeowners choose quality gravel to create stable driveways and patios, improve drainage around foundations, prevent erosion on slopes, and reduce long-term maintenance compared with untreated soil or finer materials.Popular Projects in The Flats This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - The Flats gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in The Flats.
In The Flats, delivered bulk gravel usually runs roughly $40 to $80 per ton depending on rock type, truck access, and distance from the supplier. Local factors like material type (pea gravel, crushed rock, or recycled concrete), delivery minimums, and seasonal demand can move that range; Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum and shows exact pricing after you enter your zip code.
For cost-effectiveness and durability in The Flats' hot, dry climate, 3/4" minus crushed stone or road base mixes are common because they compact well and resist rutting. Recycled crushed concrete can be a lower-cost option for base layers, while a top layer of angular 3/8" to 3/4" crushed stone balances stability and drainage.
Use this quick guide: at 2" depth you need about 8.6 tons, at 3" about 13.0 tons, and at 4" about 17.3 tons for a 1,000 sq ft area (calculations assume roughly 1.4 tons per cubic yard). Always round up for compaction, slope, and waste and remember our minimum order is 3 tons.
For slopes, use a layered approach: a coarse, angular base (3/4" to 2" rock) to break flow and encourage infiltration, with a top layer of 3/8" to 3/4" crushed stone for surface stability. Combine with geotextile fabric and edge restraints; for very steep or actively eroding areas consider riprap or terracing with larger rock.
Rules vary by city and HOA; some The Flats neighborhoods allow gravel but may restrict color, stone size, or how close it comes to the street. Check your local planning office and HOA covenants before ordering, and include notes in your Hello Gravel order if you need specific sizes or colors to meet rules.
Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and contracted haulers in the California Region once you enter your zip code, and you can view delivery options and pricing online. For installation, look for local landscapers with gravel experience, read reviews, request photos of previous work, and ask suppliers if they offer spreading or can recommend installers.
In The Flats you should expect light maintenance annually (raking, weed control, filling low spots) and spot replenishment most years; full top-up of an average driveway is usually every 3 to 5 years. Typical annual DIY maintenance costs run under $100 for tools and materials; professional grading and spreading can cost $150 to $600 depending on size and access.
Gravel is usually the lowest upfront cost and offers excellent drainage but needs periodic replenishment; decomposed granite gives a firmer, more finished look but can erode on slopes and may need stabilizer; asphalt is most durable and low-maintenance but has higher installation and permitting costs. Rough installed cost ranges in The Flats are approximately $1–$3 per sq ft for gravel, $2–$6 for decomposed granite, and $3–$10 for asphalt, depending on site conditions.
Excavate to a stable subgrade, install a geotextile fabric on loose soils, place and compact a 3" to 4" crushed rock base, then add a 2" to 3" top layer of finish gravel and compact again. Use edging to contain material and avoid overreliance on weed fabric alone—proper compaction and drainage are the most important factors for longevity.
A well-built gravel driveway in The Flats can last 10 to 25 years with regular maintenance; expect to add a top-dressing of new gravel every 3 to 7 years and to do more extensive regrading or base repairs every 7 to 15 years depending on traffic and drainage. Hot, dry weather slows freeze-thaw damage but heavy runoff or poor edges accelerate wear.
Deliveries are typically by tri-axle dump truck and Hello Gravel requires at least 3 tons per order; trucks need clear access, a level drop zone, and at least 12 to 15 feet of overhead clearance in many cases. Request tailgate spreading at checkout if you want the driver to attempt spreading (it is at the driver's discretion), and contact our team if you have tight access, steps, or special placement needs.
As of today, we require 2 business days for delivery.
