Why Olympia Homeowners Choose Hello Gravel
Olympia, with a city population of 179,462 and part of a broader metro area of 2.6+ million, is experiencing steady growth at about 2.10% annually — a pace that drives continued demand for home building, landscaping upgrades, and outdoor living improvements. In a climate that averages 34.25 inches of rain and 228 sunny days per year, material selection must balance drainage, durability, and appearance: surfaces need to shed water during wet months, resist erosion on slopes, and tolerate summer sun without excessive fading or breakdown. Homeowners are investing in patios, permeable driveways, planting renovations, and site grading, which increases need for a mix of bulk supplies such as base aggregates, soils, sands, and mulches. Because regional sourcing affects texture and color, choosing the right material and ordering accurate quantities helps avoid costly delays and ensures projects perform well over time.Popular Projects in Olympia This Season

Frequently Asked Questions - Olympia Gravel Delivery
Everything you need to know about gravel delivery in Olympia.
Start by matching the material to the purpose: structural bases need stable, compactable products while top layers need appearance and drainage. Consider your site's drainage, expected load, and maintenance preferences, and remember that gravel, sand, dirt, stone and similar aggregates perform differently in each role. Use our online material quiz or contact our team for recommendations based on your project and local conditions.
Olympia's wet climate increases the importance of drainage and freeze-thaw stability. Choose materials and assemblies that shed water and compact well, and avoid fine, easily washed materials on steep slopes; gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mixes each behave differently when wet. Plan for added drainage (subdrains, slopes, geotextile) and allow extra compaction time after dry periods.
Late spring through early fall is generally best to avoid the heaviest rain and muddy conditions, but local weather can vary year to year. Schedule deliveries and installation early and leave some buffer days for weather delays; our standard delivery window is 2+ business days, with next-day options available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. For winter projects, expect slower drying and more limited spreading windows.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide the depth you need, then use a yards vs tons conversion for the material type—density varies by material and moisture. Our online calculator converts area and depth into cubic yards and estimates tons; when in doubt, contact our team with dimensions and project type so we can help fine-tune quantities. Always allow a small overage for compaction and grading.
Hello Gravel typically offers standard delivery in 2+ business days and a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST with an additional fee. Minimum orders begin at 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (commonly tri-axle); free delivery may apply in many areas but fees depend on route and volume. You can choose a delivery date at checkout and add order notes for preferred drop location; tailgate spreading may be available at the driver's discretion.
Yes, local rules can affect large deliveries: check the City of Olympia, Thurston County public works, and any HOA before ordering. Some streets have weight or width restrictions, and permits may be required for oversized or off-road deliveries, or if trucks need road closures. If you have curb restrictions, narrow access, or an HOA, note that at checkout and contact local authorities for permit questions.
Compare quotes on the same basis: price per cubic yard and per ton, delivery fees, minimums, and whether tailgate spreading or return fees apply. Factors that influence cost include material type, local availability, distance from the supplier, seasonal demand, and volume ordered. Ask suppliers about regional material differences and include delivery logistics and site access in any comparison.
Hello Gravel coordinates delivery through local suppliers and hauling partners; many listings are delivery-only, while some suppliers or local contractors offer installation services. If you need spreading, grading, or full installation, request those services when getting quotes and compare labor rates and scope of work. We recommend getting multiple bids for installation and checking references and insurance.
Clear a safe access path for the truck, mark any obstacles, and protect plants, drains, and hardscapes where material might be dumped. Confirm the desired drop location in the order notes and consider driveway strength—heavy trucks can damage soft or narrow driveways. Also call 811 before digging or installing subsurface features and notify your hauler of any special instructions.
Plan to direct runoff away from foundations and water bodies, use proper grading and check dams, and consider geotextile fabric under aggregate on steep slopes to reduce washout. For projects near streams, wetlands, or shoreline, follow local setback rules and erosion-control regulations and consider plantings, retaining features, and temporary silt control during construction. When in doubt, consult a local civil or landscape professional familiar with Olympia regulations.
Materials are sourced locally, so color, texture, and grain size can vary based on local geology and supplier stock. Expect natural variation in gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mixes; you can add color or texture preferences in the Order Notes, and we recommend viewing samples when appearance matters. If exact match is critical, ask your sales rep about available stock or request a small sample delivery first.
Contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed and dispatched. We will make every reasonable effort to modify or cancel orders, but changes depend on supplier schedules and trucking arrangements and are not guaranteed after dispatch. See your order confirmation and our help center for the next steps and contact numbers.
